A friend of mine tweeted earlier this week that she was going in for a pedicure and what color nail polish should she wear? I replied immediately. My answer to this question will always be the same. And honestly as I was thinking about it I realized this says kind of a lot about me.

I remember from a very young age visiting my grandmother and having nail painting parties with my aunt and cousins. I’m pretty sure that’s where my obsession began. It’s all really thanks to Aunt Pat. She is a fire cracker! And she taught me to paint my toenails red. Hers were always some shade of red or maroon.

This seems kind of silly I guess, but I swear it’s a real thing. Even Joanna Goddard wrote about it last year. As she says it makes her “feel like a 1920s starlet.”

Red makes me feel feminine, sexy, and strong. My love of red says I am passionate, confident, and that I don’t mess around.

Sometimes it’s the little things that empower us. This is one of mine. What are yours?
